Day One: The Journey Begins

Excitement in the Air

Today marks the start of our adventure to Scotland, a land we’ve never set foot in before. Our hearts are buzzing with excitement as we prepare to explore the Scottish landscape and wilderness. We’re geared up for wild camping amidst nature, ensuring we’ve packed all our essentials, including the all-important smellies.

On The Move...

Our day kicked off with a trip to pick up our rental van, a charming mustard yellow Renault we’ve named Daffy. Daffy is fully equipped with a pull-out bed, a cooking worktop, and a sink, making her the perfect companion for our week-long trip to Scotland.

With the keys in hand, we embarked on our van life journey. Our first challenge was figuring out the Bluetooth connection—crucial for any road trip. Thanks to my tech skills, we got the tunes playing and set off from London, navigating the notorious M25 (which, as expected, greeted us with traffic).

The Road to Edinburgh

Our destination for the first leg of our trip is Edinburgh, a 10-hour drive. We’ve decided to break the journey into manageable chunks. After a few hours, we made our first pit stop at a service station to refuel and grab some snacks.

Our First Night

As night fell, we found a service station just before Leeds to settle in for the night. To our dismay, all the restaurants were closed except for WHSmith, so our dinner was a simple affair.

Back in the van, we set up the pull-out bed and prepared for a cosy night’s sleep in Daffy. Despite the day’s challenges, the van felt homely and we were eager to rest up for the journey ahead.

We’re almost in Edinburgh! See you in the morning for the next chapter of our adventure.
